THE POITOU CHARENTE’S GOT TALENT!
Following another successful summer fete at Di and John Bedbrook’s house we set out to prove that there is lots of talent out there. Entries were invited from all and sundry and the stage was set. We had a white dinner-jacketed MC (Bruce Morris), his little helper and scorer, Madame Shenanigan (Carol Moore), and three judges (Jan Morris, Maggie Millest and John Cass) armed with scorecards and caustic comments.
Act followed act: singers, guitar players, reciters of comic verses. Highlights included Len Verey, a revelation with his mastery of the spoons, Alec Shepherd wielding his guitar and a tribute duo from Queen. (Freddie Mercury played by Alex Millest and Peter Millest, Brian May). This last act brought the audience to a high pitch of excitement and three still-warm bras landed at Alex’s feet. The wardrobe department spent the rest of the evening with their arms crossed. The winners, by a unanimous decision of judges and public, were Queen.
The whole evening was planned to be a benefit to raise funds to help Alexander Millest with his fees for his first year at University.
