Encore Quiz Night

Linda and John Cass organised the Quiz Night this time. A pleasure and a privilege gained by winning the quiz last time: indeed a poisoned chalice! Thank goodness for the internet with ready-made quizzes on so many different subjects.

We are a broad church within Encore so the themes of the individual rounds needed to be eclectic. We ended up with subjects as varied as anagrammatic book titles, well-known duos of popular song and duets from operas and dates from history, to mention just three of eight.

Six teams of members and friends presented themselves like gladiators to the arena armed only with heads full of knowledge and experience and sharpened pencils.

Professor Plum kept order – rules were strictly maintained. No phoning a friend, no iPads, no looking over other teams’ shoulders and no trading answers for money. Individual scores and running totals were kept by the good professor without even the use of a calculator! Tension was building.

Heads were scratched, memories searched and refreshed from the bar.
